Technology Investment Group Scoops Free Serviced Office in Birmingham

UBC launched its free serviced office giveaway in January this year, enabling anyone who toured a UBC serviced office to be entered into the prize draw to win an office, free for 12 months.

The prize was available at all UBC business centres across 8 locations, including Southampton, Fleet, Brentford, Cirencester, Henley-in-Arden, Birmingham, Solihull, and Birchwood in the North West.

After taking an office tour with UBC at 65 Church Street in Central Birmingham, Mercia, which is headquartered at Henley-in-Arden in Warwickshire, was selected at random as the lucky winner.

Mercia is a leading UK technology investor with a particular emphasis on the Midlands, North of England and Scotland. The company focuses on high growth sectors across four fields including Digital & Digital Entertainment; Software & the Internet; Electronics, Materials, Manufacturing & Engineering; and Life Sciences & Biosciences.

Katy Horrocks, Marketing Director at Mercia, explained that Birmingham is a key location for the team due to its growing investment footprint.

“We have been actively looking for new investment opportunities within the Midlands region as part of our continued expansion, and Birmingham is a prime location for deal flow sourcing,” commented Katy.

“We are seeking early stage innovative technology companies that require our investment and sector expertise to facilitate their growth, and there is significant digital activity happening in Central Birmingham, particularly in the ‘Silicon Canal’ area.

“Birmingham is now very tech-focused and the city is attracting and nurturing lots of young vibrant businesses and talented entrepreneurs. They need both investment and support, which is precisely what Mercia specialises in.”

Mercia already works with a wide range of Midlands companies which includes; Impression Technologies, Smart Antenna Technologies and Medherant.

According to Katy, Mercia has been on an “upward trajectory” since it became AIM listed in December 2014. Growth accelerated further in 2016 when the company acquired Enterprise Ventures Group Limited and expanded with the addition of Enterprise Ventures’ 30 staff, 4 offices and a tech portfolio of more than 150 businesses.

“Birmingham is part of our regional growth story. It is a natural choice for us as our homeland is in the Midlands,” said Katy.

Commenting on their new offices at 65 Church Street, she added: “We are pleased to be moving into Church Street and look forward to settling in over the next few weeks.”
